## Treadmill Calorie Calculator

A 70 kg person burns about 140 calories in 30 minutes of moderate treadmill walking at 4.8–5.5 km/h.

Your estimate changes with body weight, workout duration and treadmill speed.

## Calories burned on a treadmill

Choose your body weight, then compare estimated calorie burn across common level-treadmill walking speeds and workout durations.

Body weight: 70 kg

| Treadmill speed | 15 min | 30 min | 60 min |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Easy 3.2–3.9 km/h | 55 kcal | 110 kcal | 221 kcal |
| Moderate 4.8–5.5 km/h | 70 kcal | 140 kcal | 279 kcal |
| Brisk 5.6–6.3 km/h | 88 kcal | 176 kcal | 353 kcal |
| Fast 6.4–7.1 km/h | 107 kcal | 213 kcal | 426 kcal |

## Calculate your treadmill calories

Enter your body weight and workout duration, then choose the treadmill speed that best matches your session.

This is a MET-based estimate for level treadmill walking at 0% grade.

## What changes treadmill calorie burn?

The same amount of treadmill time can produce different calorie estimates depending on how the workout is performed.

### Body weight

At the same treadmill speed and duration, a heavier body generally requires more energy to move.

### Speed

Faster treadmill walking increases exercise intensity and calorie burn per minute.

### Incline

Walking uphill can substantially increase energy expenditure. The calculator on this page uses level treadmill walking at 0% grade.

### Individual efficiency

Fitness, gait and individual physiology can make your actual energy expenditure different from a MET-based estimate.

## One workout is easy to estimate. The whole day is harder.

Kibora helps you put food, calories and activity into context so you can understand how everything adds up across your day.

## Calculation methodology and sources

These estimates use treadmill-walking MET values from the 2024 Adult Compendium of Physical Activities and the standard MET calorie-expenditure equation.

### Treadmill speed and intensity

The 2024 Adult Compendium lists level treadmill walking at 3.0 METs for 3.2–3.9 km/h, 3.8 METs for 4.8–5.5 km/h, 4.8 METs for 5.6–6.3 km/h, and 5.8 METs for 6.4–7.1 km/h.

These four ranges are used as the calculator intensity presets and reference-table rows.

### Calorie calculation

Calories are estimated with the standard MET equation: MET × 3.5 × body weight in kilograms ÷ 200 × minutes.

Reference-table values are rounded to the nearest whole calorie. Calculator results can retain one decimal place.

### Assumptions and limitations

The estimates assume level treadmill walking at 0% grade and do not separately model incline, handrail use, gait differences or cardiovascular fitness.

MET values are population-level reference estimates, so individual calorie expenditure can differ from the result shown here.

## FAQ

### How many calories does 30 minutes on a treadmill burn?

It depends on body weight and treadmill speed. Using the estimates on this page, a 70 kg person burns about 110 calories in 30 minutes at an easy walking pace, about 140 calories at a moderate pace, about 176 calories at a brisk pace, and about 213 calories at a fast walking pace.

### Does walking faster on a treadmill burn more calories?

Yes. A faster treadmill speed generally raises exercise intensity and increases calorie burn per minute.

### Does incline change treadmill calorie burn?

Yes. Walking uphill increases energy expenditure compared with level treadmill walking at the same speed. The estimates on this page use 0% grade so speed can be compared consistently.

### Are treadmill calorie counters accurate?

Treadmill displays are estimates. They may use speed, incline, time and sometimes body weight, but they do not measure your individual energy expenditure directly.

### Why is my watch different from the treadmill estimate?

Wearables may use heart rate and personal profile data in addition to movement, while this page uses a transparent MET-based estimate. Different methods can produce different results.
